GPO (German Precision Optics) 1-8 Tactical Scope Review

GPO is a relatively new scope company started by guys with deep roots in German scope manufacturing, specifically S&B and Zeiss. They wanted to start a company that is using German parts and assembled here in the US. Zeiss did this to great success with the Conquest line. I have spent quite a bit of time using this fine optic. I would definitely recommend one and the price is VERY attractive.

Meopta Introduces the MeoRed T Reflex Sight

TAMPA, FL, January 2, 2018 – Meopta is pleased to introduce the MeoRed T reflex sight (1x30mm).  The outstanding optical quality and unlimited eye relief of this red dot sight enable fast and accurate target acquisition when it matters most, regardless of eye position behind the sight.

The MeoRed T is an excellent primary sight on today’s MSR/AR platforms and features a 1.5 MOA illuminated red dot reticle with 12 intensity level settings for use in various light conditions.  The tough housing of the MeoRed T is made of aircraft-grade aluminum for ultimate reliability.

Sighting in a mil based scope (cool target alert)

It’s really easy to dial in a mil based scope if your scope has a good reticle, you can use it to measure how far your scope is off from the point of aim and dial in the corrections.  However, it’s hard to hold the scope perfectly still and get down to .1 mil increments.  Impossible if you don’t have .1 mil gradients in the reticle.

Trijicon IR-HUNTER Thermal Scope Review

Trijicon IR-HUNTER

The Trijicon IR-Hunter is one of four products released by the new Trijicon Electro Optics Division formed after their acquisition of IR Defense Corporation.  These include the IR-Hunter and REAP-IR thermal riflescopes, the IR-Patrol thermal monocular, and the SNIPE-IR thermal clip-on.  Tactical Gun Review was fortunate enough to receive the first IR-Hunter to hit the field.  The specific model reviewed is the IR-Hunter MK3 60MM.

The MK3 60MM is Trijicon’s most advanced thermal riflescope.  Featuring a 60MM lens, 4.5X optical zoom, 12 Micron sensor pitch, and 640 X 480 digital OLED display the IR-Hunter MK3 delivers an incredible experience.  On a pitch-black night we easily spotted and identified a boar hog at over 400 yards (more on that hunt later).  Full specifications here.

Buying Guide for Night Vision Devices

Trijicon Thermal

Night vision devices are excellent tools that enable you to see in the dark or under minimal light conditions. They have fantastic applications from hunting and military, to surveillance and security. When they were first released, the cost of night vision gadgets were extremely high. Today, prices are competitive, making them affordable to anyone who wants to enjoy nocturnal activities.

Trijicon Electro Optics

Trijicon IR_HUNTER

Trijicon’s purchase of IR Defense was announced last August.  In the presser, Stephen Bindon, Trijicon President and CEO stated, “The night vision market continues to grow at a phenomenal pace and the acquisition of IR Defense Corp. gives us a very unique opportunity to enter this market by providing thermal imaging products to end-users across the spectrum. We see an opportunity to invest in and grow the business while providing strategic technology to Trijicon.”

With FLIR buying Armasight, these are interesting times and clearly signal that night vision / thermal is going more mainstream.  Tactical Gun Review is based in Texas where hog hunting has exploded in popularity and there is no better way to hunt hogs than with thermal imaging.

Steiner P4Xi 1-4X24 – Excellent 3 Gun or Patrol Optics

Steiner P4Xi

Steiner has been on a roll lately and their new P4Xi 1-4X24 is an excellent choice for 3 Gun or Patrol Rifle.  Featuring a true 1X, innovative P3TR illuminated reticle, and a sweet price point the new “Made in the USA” P4Xi deserves consideration for your next build.  I mounted it on my new custom-build 5.56 AR and headed out to our private range south of San Antonio for a field test.

First impression is one of “quality.”  It just feels solid.  Magnification power ring functions smoothly, especially with the Steiner throw lever.

Trijicon AccuPower 2.5-10X56 Scope Review

Mike Coker

Trijicon is known for producing high quality, battle-proven optics.  I requested the Trijicon AccuPower 2.5X10X56 for review, mounted it on my LMT .308, and headed to the range for first impressions.

The AccuPower model line uses a single CR2032 battery to power the illuminated reticle.  This is a decidedly different approach from the Trijicon AccuPoint that uses fiber optics and a tritium reticle.  AccuPower scopes are less expensive to produce than AccuPoints and this particular model is $200 cheaper than the corresponding AccuPoint unit.  The AccuPower controls the illuminated reticle with eleven (11) brightness settings with an “off” position between each.  I do not like scopes that make you spin all the way back to zero to turn off power to the reticle.

Leupold VX-R 2-7X33 scope review

Mike Coker

The Leupold VX-R line of optics is an outstanding value for an illuminated reticle hunting scope.  We had one of the first VX-R scopes to hit the field and have it used it for several seasons now.  The scope features the Leupold Index Matched Lens System for superior light management.  In our field testing, we can attest to a clear, bright image even in low light.

The design is clean, slim, and light with an attractive matte finish.  Length is 11.30 inches with a weight of 12.70 ounces.  Magnification is 2x – 7x with 33mm objective lens.  Tube is 30mm for better light transmission.
