Whether you’re trying to improve your skills or like shooting for fun, the gun range is a fun place to spend your time. That’s one of the main reasons so many people buy a gun in the first place. However, you need more than just a firearm to enjoy this pastime. If you’ve recently bought your first firearm, here are some things you’ll need to buy for yourself afterward.
Ammunition
So, this first one might seem obvious, but we wanted to make sure you’re buying enough for yourself. Many new firearm owners underestimate how much ammo they’ll need to take their gun to the range regularly. A single box of ammo isn’t going to cut it.
If you buy 100 rounds or so, you might be able to make it last two sessions, but you can never have too much ammunition. Just be on the lookout for discounts. Ammo can be expensive, so if you spot a sale, that would be an ideal time to stock up.
Safety Gear
The next set of items on the list is safety gear. Without the proper equipment, you won’t even be able to get onto the range. The two main things you’ll need will be safety glasses and ear protection. If you don’t have these yet, most ranges will rent them out to you, but buying a set for yourself will save you a lot of money in the long run.
Cleaning Kit
One thing that you’ll need to buy after getting your first firearm that not enough people get right away is a cleaning kit. Gun maintenance is a crucial part of owning a gun. If you don’t clean your weapon out often enough, the materials will degrade quicker than usual, which can cause the firearm to break down or possibly malfunction during use. Getting into the habit of cleaning your gun after each use will help extend the longevity of your firearm.
Storage Case
Of course, when your gun isn’t in use, you’ll need a place to store it. For most weapons, you can find a small storage case that can keep your firearm safe and out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have access to it. If you plan to expand your collection someday, now wouldn’t be a bad time to look into gun safes.
Either way, though, you’ll still want to have a portable storage case for your firearms. Many states require your gun to be in a carrying case while transporting it. That means to go to the range, you’ll need a portable storage case.
Firearm Attachments
Our final suggestion for your first gun is to get a few firearm attachments. This is the fun part of owning a gun. With the right accessories, you can improve your aim while making your firearm look more unique. Just make sure you know which factors to consider when buying firearm accessories. You won’t want to go overboard buying things you don’t need for your first gun.
