Yesterday I bought a fun little toy. I never knew about this thing but my buddy Morgan in Tennessee sent me a video of him firing what appeared to be a full auto AR. So I was understandably jealous, we can’t get hardly anything cool in Michigan. He tells me it’s a SlideFire stock. A stock designed to help you “bump” fire your rifle. This one supposedly you can do it accurately. Well I watched the YouTube video’s and I was ready to try one out. They are $350 most places. So I’m going to order this thing and a local gun nut buddy of mine stopped in and I told him about it and he was like “oh yeah I have one in the box at home you want it”?? Your damn right I do!! So Ed sold it to me for $200!! What a deal. 🙂 It took me a whole 5 minutes to install, it’s totally idiot proof, anybody could install this thing. It came with a letter from the BATF stating it is legal. I took my letter to the range with me and will continue too. Just in case it raises any questions.

So I’m out at the firing pit. I stayed close to the berm and dumped them in the dirt. I just wanted to see the thing work. Well it works fine right off, you can fire controlled bursts of 3-5 rounds, you can still fire semi-auto or you can empty a full magazine in no time flat just like it was full auto!! The thing really does work! I had to take some time to get used to it. For instance I had my trigger finger too far over the finger rest at first and you need to push forward with your weak hand just right, it’s not really hard it just takes a few mags to get used to the technique. I still am not an expert at it yet but trust me I will be before long! This thing was more fun than I don’t know what! Loved it! Also I was pushing forward using my forward grip. I find it MUCH easier to use if I hold the front of the rifle just forward of the magazine well. It allows for better control of the amount you push and the distance you slide it. You see the whole rifle except for the pistol grip butt stock slides forward till the trigger is tripped by your finger that’s on a finger rest. Then the rifle recoils and comes back, the trigger resets. If you keep steady pressure forward it slides back forward again once again tripping the trigger and then the thing fires again…repeat…repeat…you just keep pushing for as long as you want to fire. All this happens incredibly fast giving you full auto rates of fire, it’s really quite neat how the thing works. Keep in mind also that part of your technique with this thing is to firmly keep the stock in your shoulder, so you can control and aim the rifle easily, even while barking off a full mag in 2 seconds. It does take a few mags to start getting the idea. Just experiment with your hold and amount you push with your weak hand till you find your sweet spot. You’ll find it and then you can fire controlled accurate bursts or rock and roll.

Now why?? Well, there’s no reason outside of its a freakin’ great time. That’s all the more reason you need, if you are a law abiding American like I am then it’s your right to go waste ammo at a high cyclic rate if you so choose too. If you choose not to then don’t but don’t bother those of us who do. For the record this thing has NO PLACE in a home defense situation, semi auto will get you through any problems you should ever have, including war. I do not believe in auto rifles. I have spent years and years toting around automatic weapons and even in combat I NEVER used the 3 round burst on my m4, NEVER. I believe in semi auto for rifles, it’s hits that count, not how many rounds you can fire. Leave full auto fire to belt fed stuff. I have used full auto with 50 cals, m60’s, SAW’s and 240’s but rifles should fire semi-auto in my opinion. Otherwise you’ll have a bunch of nervous nelly’s who are out of ammo 90 seconds into an ambush. Burst is bad enough, I watched my buddy John pump a full mag into a dude on 3 round burst. He just kept firing till he was empty, I told him right then you keep that up and you’ll be out of ammo soon. Lastly on that home defense scenario, do you really want to explain to cops or a jury why you felt it necessary to pump a full mag at auto rates of fire into a robber in the middle of the night?? I don’t, no way!! Not when one well placed round will suffice. You’ll look like a lunatic to any jury in the world. Not to mention the possible collateral damage from 30 rounds of 5.56 flying around your house.

Wrapping up: Is the thing worth $350?? I don’t know, that’s a lot of money for a piece of plastic. Those boys are ingenious though! I would have paid the $350 for sure, I just might have been disappointed in myself for doing it. So with my lucky find at $200 I am totally thrilled with the thing. It’s a blast to play with, but that’s all, it’s really not useful for anything but a big smile on your face. If you need a smile though this will do it!! 🙂

As always thanks for reading and happy shooting.

PS…SAFETY NOTICE…I have fired a lot of auto weapons a lot of times…years and years of regular use…now I have no problem keeping my M4 on target but PLEASE PLEASE!! WATCH YOUR MUZZLE CLIMB!!! DO NOT OVERSHOOT YOUR BACKSTOP!! I suggest your start REAL close and back up as you become comfortable with it. SAFETY FIRST! Thanks.
