SUB-X:  A Game Changer?

Hornady has released their new Sub-X 190gr 300 Blackout ammunition and it is a game changer.  This is a direct challenge to the Lehigh Defense 194gr Maximum Expansion load.  One big difference is the price – the Hornady ammo is about half the price of the Lehigh coming in at a manageable $1.15 per round (per Midway USA).

We had the opportunity to field test the Hornady Sub-X on some wild Texas hogs and it is devastatingly effective with proper shot placement.

Ballistics according to Hornady:

One problem!

One hiccup we encountered is that my AAC Model 7 (Remington)16″ barrel went supersonic with this ammo – consistently pushing 1120+ on several test rounds.  We thought it “sounded too loud” so we busted out the chronograph and, sure enough, supersonic.  That was with a Crux Ark 30 7.5″ suppressor.  I should have removed the suppressor to get a second variable but didn’t think about it at the time.  Although it is doubtful the can pushed velocity that much.

In any case, this is an exciting new option from the good guys at Hornady.  As you can see from the video, they really whack the hogs!

Wow, that thing just flopped right over didnt it! Now, how do they behave? Do they ever get the idea to try to rush you as a pack? We dont have pig problems up here. Do you eat them? The big black one would look great on our hog roaster. We did a 240 lb one about 2 months ago but I had to buy it from a farmer lol.

I hope Hornady decides to sell just the bullet. Looks like a great load but I’d prefer to role my own. I was happy too see that kind of performance out of a short barrel. Mines a 7.5 inch Faxon, obviously in an AR platform. I might buy a couple boxes just to have them but hoping for a box of 500 bullets. Someday we oughta get our butts down there. Kelly would love dropping those things, she’ll probably use her bow too.

You dont want to eat ’em. They are rank, and have big oil glands scattered thoughout their thick, fatty skin. You defineily dont wat that flavor in your pork fat!
