Trijicon ACOG TA44SR-10.  I have used various ACOGS over the last few years and have grown to trust them with zero reservations.

Standard issue to our military, they are truly battle proven. When you see images of our tropps with funny looking little scopes on their ARs, those are ACOGS (for those that aren’t aware).

What they offer:

Fixed power magniifaction

Constantly lit reticle that self adjusts for the lighting conditions

Reticle that glows via tritium gas

most models also have fiber optics that pick up ambient light and make the reticle brighter, for use in daytime, and the reticle self adjusts to the conditions. It is bright for daylight use and dims down for nighttime use so that it does not cause the iris to contract and impact your nightvision. no batteries or switches to fail

That’s a general over view of the ACOG series.

This review is on the TA44SR10 which has 1.5x magnification and a circle with a dot in the middle. This is very similar to an Eotech reticle, for fast shooting you simply bracket the intended target and fire. For precise shots, just use the center dot.

I had no problem doing a 2″ group at 100 yards with a 6.8 AR and busting clay targets at 200 yards is very easy with a 50/200 yard zero. Did I say easy? I meant FUN!!! line up a bank of them and watch them explode!

I have used the TA44 on a hog hunt and had no problem whatsoever putting a round right behing the ear of a hog at 90 yards offhand…

I have also used the TA44 in 3 gun matches on a 5.56 and thought it exceled in that role. I really didn’t find it any slower to engage than an red dot and faster past 50 yards. Steel at 200 yards is easy and fast.

Another thing ACOGS are known for is the quality of glass. Everyone who looks through one always comments “oh wow, that’s really clear, amazing glass” those types of comments are common.

ACOGs are expensive, no doubt about it. But there is nothing on the market that does what they do. Aimpoints are tough and have long battery life, but they are not as sharp and as clear (especially in low light) as an ACOG. And I have used them with 3x magnifiers.

Bottom line:

If you want an optic that gives just a tad of magnification for target identification but still need CQB capability, the TA44 is absolutely worth checking out. There are different reticles and colors, and really, only your eyes will tell you which one is right for you and your application.
