Browning BPS review

I wish I could find something negative to say about hunting in this modern age with a technology that has been around for over 100 years, but I have to say, like the timeless 1911, the browning designed BPS with bottom eject is a fantastic, reliable, and flawless hunting companion.

I have hunted waterfowl exclusively over the last 5 years with a Beretta Xtrema and have had much success with this gun. Yes, I’ve had plenty of misfires, stovepipes, broken extractors, charging handles that mysteriously disappear, and frozen firing pins – but had to dig deep to find anything bad to say about this semi-auto workhorse.  But some time over the summer my Beretta was stolen. So, with limited funds I went out to purchase a new shotgun and ended up “settling” on a Browning BPS.  I have to say that after almost a full season of hunting I am a believer.

It’s heavy – but the weight makes 3.5″ shells feel alright. It’s stiff – but it has cycled everything I’ve thrown in it (including rusty shells from last season). I’ve dropped it in the mud, in the bay, run it over with a friend’s truck and it’s still working flawlessly.  I give the BPS a 9 out of 10 (not a full 10 because the gun is ugly!)
