Benchmade is renowned for their outstanding collection of quality knives including the Barrage and Adamas. The company has now released two smaller versions of both knives, the Mini-Barrage and the Mini-Adamas. Either of these two will make an awesome Every Day Carry solution.

The Mini-Barrage reviewed here is model 585-03, part of their Blue Class. Originally designed by Warren Osborne, this new version features a Blue Canyon Richlite handle, CPM-S30V blade, and the robust AXIS Assistance with integrated safety. MSRP $300.

The Mini-Adamas is model 273FE-2, Black Class. Olive Drab G10 handle, CPM Cruwear steel blade, and AXIS Lock. MSRP $290.

Black Class versus Blue Class

To keep it simple, Blue Class is the standard Benchmade knife made for EDC and general use. At one point, Benchmade sold a lower-tier Red Class but that is gone. Black Class is all of the Automatic knives as well as knives primarily intended for Military and Law Enforcement. In general, Black Class may be priced slightly higher overall. Bottom line, find the style, size, and materials you like and don’t fret too much about the Class.

Comparison in size and weight between the two:

I have been carrying the Mini-Barrage for several weeks now and really like it. I normally utilize the clip in either my left front or back right pocket. The Mini-Barrage is light enough that I forget all about it until I reach into a pocket. The Mini-Adamas will likely go into my hunting backpack.

The Mini-Barrage and Mini-Adamas are both high quality knives featuring premium steel. The Mini-Barrage is a flashy knife while the Mini-Adamas is more of a workhorse. I can strongly recommend either.

Many people may not be familiar with the Benchmade Lifesharp Guarantee. Benchmade will, for the life of the knife, re-sharpen your knife for free. This includes cleaning, oiling, adjusting, and sharpening.
