Is MagnaCut the Next Breakthrough in Knife Steel?

Various types of steel have been used to manufacture high-quality knives over the years, including stainless steel, carbon steel, and Damascus steel. But a few years ago, a brand-new type of steel called CPM MagnaCut was introduced. It has reshaped how some knife enthusiasts think about which blades they add to their custom knives.

So, is MagnaCut the next breakthrough in knife steel? Let’s take a closer look at what this type of steel is, what benefits it brings to the table, and why you should consider going with it when selecting a knife blade.

What Is MagnaCut?

MagnaCut first appeared in 2021. It was developed by metallurgist Dr. Larrin Thomas. He was inspired to create it after noticing the limitations of existing knife steels.

American steel manufacturer Carpenter Technology Corporation took Dr. Thomas’ findings and developed the first official formula for MagnaCut. The company also put together the first manufacturing process for MagnaCut.

Dr. Thomas’ original goal was to develop a type of knife steel that would be durable, resistant to corrosion, extremely hard, and more wear-resistant than other knife steels. He was largely successful during his mission.

What Are the Benefits of MagnaCut?

There is a simple reason why so many knife connoisseurs already consider MagnaCut the wave of the future for knife steel. MagnaCut knives provide users with a long list of benefits that aren’t always available to them when they invest in knives constructed out of other types of steel.

Here are several leading benefits of MagnaCut:

  • Excellent edge retention: MagnaCut knives will stay sharper for longer stretches of time than knives made with other steel options.
  • Incredible toughness: MagnaCut knives are just about as durable as they come. Their uncompromised hardness and toughness make it almost impossible to chip or break their blades, no matter what you might put them through while using them.
  • Unbeatable corrosion resistance: MagnaCut knives won’t ever rust, regardless of whether you use them in very humid conditions or even subject them to moisture when you’re out enjoying the great outdoors.
  • Amazing sharpening: MagnaCut knives will withstand almost anything you put them through, but you shouldn’t experience any struggles when sharpening them. They’re easy to sharpen despite their hardness.
  • Eye-opening sustainability: MagnaCut knives will demonstrate more sustainability than you might imagine since they contain a reduced chromium content compared to other steel knives. Their production process is, therefore, more sustainable overall.

As an added bonus, MagnaCut knives are also more versatile than other knives with steel blades. Whether you’re shopping for knives you can use in the kitchen or knives that will come in handy while hunting, you’ll be blown away by their versatility.

Is MagnaCut Superior to Other Types of Knife Steel?

MagnaCut knives aren’t necessarily going to take over the entire industry and send knives made using other types of steel packing. There is still a place for knives that contain stainless steel, carbon steel, Damascus steel, etc.

However, MagnaCut knives could significantly impact the industry by becoming the go-to knife steel for many casual and hardcore knife users alike. This high-performance steel will undoubtedly steal at least some attention from its closest competitors.

Who Should Take Advantage of MagnaCut?

If you don’t have any MagnaCut knives yet, it’s probably time to change that. The only way to see the power of MagnaCut for yourself is by purchasing a knife with a blade made out of this kind of steel.

Some knife users can benefit from MagnaCut knives more than others. For instance, you might be pleasantly surprised to see what MagnaCut can do if you buy:

  • MagnaCut kitchen knives
  • MagnaCut pocket knives
  • MagnaCut hunting knives

Where Can You Find MagnaCut Knives?

Are you interested in buying your first MagnaCut knife? Pick one up from a trusted source that specializes in supplying knives made using MagnaCut steel. It shouldn’t take you too long to see what separates this metal from the pack. It’s even seen as a worthy competitor to more advanced types of knife steel, such as CPM-4V.

If you’ve been in the market for a durable fixed-blade knife that will exceed your wildest expectations in all seasons, you can’t go wrong with a MagnaCut knife. It will make a big splash in your world and make you wonder what has taken you so long to add it to your growing knife collection.

Invest in a High-Quality Knife That Includes a MagnaCut Blade

It isn’t a stretch to say that MagnaCut is the next breakthrough in knife steel. It has already started overtaking other types of knife steel and should only grow in popularity as knife manufacturers offer it as a more readily available option. It likely won’t be long before this metal material is one of the more commonly chosen options.

I own several Benchmade knifes in MagnaCut steel and they are exceptional. A professional fishing guide in Matagorda told me that the Benchmade filet knife was the sharpest filet knife he had ever used!
