As a Police Officer, I’ve been carrying a gun on and off duty for the last 7+ years.  I carried with my CHL prior to my career in Law Enforcement for several years.  A universal issue I’ve had is, where do I carry my spare magazine when I carry in plain cloths or off duty? A new product called NeoMag is just the solution I’ve been looking for. It is so simple, I can’t believe it took this long to make.

I have tried belt mag holsters, inside the waist, outside the waist and pocket carry.  The IWB mag holder combined with an IWB holster makes your pants size larger than normal, plus it just wasn’t as comfortable for me. I typically carry IWB so an OWB mag holder is harder to conceal and is easy to tell that I’m wearing a gun.  Pocket carry was usually what I resorted to, but it was a compromise. My mag would be placed in the pocket and when I needed it I had to go fishing to get it, not fast but at least I had a mag.

The NeoMag is a great solution.  It is simply a magnetic pocket clip.  On the outside, it looks and wears like a pocket knife clipped to your belt.  But, it contains a magnet that secures your magazine to the top of your pocket allowing the mag to index with the rounds facing the direction you need to pull the mag and insert it into a gun quickly.

The NeoMag also only retains the magazine by the use of the magnet so the magazine slides out of the pocket with ease and is very smooth.

I’m told that I have an original version which rides high in the pocket, and that version 2 will ride slightly lower concealing the mag better. Also, the V2 will possibly come with a melonite finish so as to not flake off as mine did over time.

I loaned the NeoMag to several officers that have backgrounds in SWAT, Narcotics, all manner of undercover and plain cloths assignments and who have all been carrying everyday for a combined time of over 50 years.  All who used the NeoMag said it’s a great simple light solution for carrying a spare magazine off duty.

I think that once the melonite finish and lower pocket profile hits the market, this little accessory will be a must have for those who carry a gun daily. This is a great solution for anyone looking to carry extra ammo.
