Lewis Machine & Tool (LMT) launched the new Compressor and MARS-L rifles at SHOT Show 2016. Tactical Gun Review had the opportunity to run both guns at Range Day at the Boulder Rifle and Pistol Club on the Monday before SHOT.  The range is set in the Nevada desert with steel targets at varying distances.

The LMT Compressor is perhaps the most compact AR platform in production.  It is offered in 5.56 NATO and .300 Blackout and is designed for operators requiring a discreet solution while retaining the firepower and proven reliability of an AR-15 platform. What makes a LMT Compressor?

The parts kit includes an extension tube that has been reduced by 2.75 inches, the SOPMOD stock was reduced accordingly, a new spring and buffer developed, and a drop-in weight allows the rifle to function reliably.  I only had the opportunity to shoot two mags at the range but the Compressor ran beautifully.  Both the Compressor and MARS-L were fitted with various red dot scopes including the Leupold D-EVO (which will take some getting used to as I found it more distracting than helpful).

The LMT Compressor is available in 5.56 or 300 BLK with a 10.5″ barrel.  MSRP $2,691.

The LMT Defense PDW Conversion Kit will retail for $455.  The kit reduces the overall length of any standard AR by 2.75″ overall.

The LMT Defense Modular Ambidextrous Rifle System – Light has been adopted by the New Zealand Defence Force and is completely ambidextrous.  The beauty and simplicity of the design quickly became apparent on the range when I (as a right-hander) could use my right index finger to catch the bolt without removing my hand from the grip.  Running this gun makes you wonder if Eugene Stoner was left-handed.  All of the controls are a mirror-image and there is nothing gimmicky about it – just built right.  The LMT MARS-L is available in a variety of configurations.  The Light refers to the calibers – 5.56, .300 BLK, .204 Ruger, and 6.8 SPC.  MSRP $2,347.

As you would expect from LMT, the initial impression is that of a high quality build.  The monolithic upper receiver and rail provides strength and accuracy.
