I have been testing the new Leica Geovid HD 10×42 HD range finding binoculars.  To say I am impressed is an understatement.

I am REALLY impressed.  Leica glass is simply amazing as expected and the range finder is just flat out awesome.  Being able to range at extreme distances out to 2000 yards is really cool but unless you are an extreme long range shooter of little use to you during your typical endeavors.  What is important to most hunters is the ability to consistently range targets and to be able to do it quickly.  The Leicas do both.  I have ranged a calf at almost 1800 yards, a moving truck at 1200, walking cows at 1200, deer moving through brush out to 500 and being able to lock in a deer in a field with other deer around them.  It’s lightening quick to get a reading, something that lesser units struggle with.

Leica offers the B model with the built in ballistic calculator but I chose to get the standard models as I run varying calibers of rifles and test my ammo out to get my own DOPE and tape range cards to the rifles.  I want to know how many yards it is quickly and then I just use the card if needed.  So, given my personal needs I didn’t feel the need for the Ballistic calculator. Having said that, I can see where it can make a lot of sense for some users.

I really like the ergonomics of these Leicas.  They are very comfortable to use quickly and at extended uses.

The glass is spectacular, razor sharp, outstanding image quality.  Just phenomenal, ask anyone who has spent any time with Leicas and they will all say the same thing.  It just doesn’t get any better.

I would HIGHLY recommend the Leica Geovid LRFs.
