454 casull Doubletap ammo 400 grain review
I recently got some boxes of doubletap 400 grain hard cast 454 Ammo. WOW!! is all I can say. They are huge and impressive looking. Advertised as the deepest penetrating round available for a 454 casull. I have to believe it. I have been unable to recover any of the bullets from what I’ve fired due to it shoots clean thru my backstop every round…4 feet of dirt and its blowing out the other side everytime. After turning a cinder block to dust. Out of a Ruger Super Redhawk with 7 1/2 inch barrel the velocity is about 1400 fps. Thats alot of lead moving pretty fast. I wouldnt hesitate to carry this in any and all big mean angry animal area’s. This round is a thumper. Recoil is there but not unbearable. After a cylinder full you definetly have some sting in your hand. No reason though you should be in the fetal position screaming lol:) Do me a favor…dont be a tool… It is NOT funny to hand this over to a novice shooter or woman who isnt prepared for it and think its funny…Its not funny! I had some do*chebag just do this to a girlfriend of mine with a 44 mag and he wont do that again. Shes still gunshy because of it.. So please gentlemen we need all the support we can get so lets not be scaring new shooters away. Thanks for reading.

Well so much for that love affair with this load….a month ago I had a dud…Which really surprised me…Ruger 454 in perfect working order and a good solid primer strike…it fired on the second time around but I got a click the first time..What bothers me the most about this is I contacted DoubleTap twice and received no response…They could have told me any piss poor excuse and made me feel better..they didnt bother too. Which is really rubbing me the wrong way. So I’m done with that load as well as my 38 super, 44 mag and 45 acp loads from them. When those shells are gone thats it. I’ll look to another source. In todays competitive world other people have good stuff to offer too. If I cant even get DoubleTap to acknowledge my emails, then they wont be acknowledging my credit card number anymore either. Things happen from time to time right? I’d have rested alot easier if they just said “sorry, good thing you were not being attacked by a bear and we’ll check into this issue” but totally blowing me off was the wrong answer. It could have been a once in a lifetime thing..but my recommendation is shoot alot of it to be sure if your going to carry it for defensive purposes. For me it was 1 out of 40 cartridges failed.
